Mentorship enables individuals to take charge of their learning. You will reach full potential, hone your skills, build confidence, and become an expert writer. I’m offering this feedback because many writers are initially hesitant to share their work. The only person who will see this is me. We can work together to achieve your goals. Your opening chapter underpins many of the skills needed to make your novel work for you. This will boost your confidence in tackling the remaining chapters. I will work with you and show you how to make the rest of your book a success. Writers need feedback, of course, but mentoring offers so much more. Together, we will strive to make your book the best it can possibly be.
I’ve enjoyed a successful 25-year career in the driver education field and aim to share my teaching skills for your benefit. I have been through all the trials of novel writing, and I know how it feels. Like driving, practice will help you craft compelling stories and lead to a successful novel with many readers following you. You will make mistakes along the way, but let’s hope that each one is a positive learning experience. Writing is a lonely occupation and having someone there to help can make a huge difference.
When I first began writing in the 1980s, I wished I’d had a mentor to help me understand the skills. I read lots of ‘How to’ books, and I am an avid reader, and when writing my own novels, I was engrossed in my own story and never considered there was a better way of gripping the reader or the skills that were needed to ‘show and not tell’, or how to contact a publisher. I have to say I was young and naïve in those days; I learned the hard way. A mentor’s guidance can significantly improve your book, keep you focused, and boost your confidence and chances of success as an author. Many publishers will advise mentoring and professional editing before submitting your work.
